By ALESSANDRA PAPIA
A woman’s skin colour for some reason
Determines opinions, pay rates, job availability and futures
Rather what should
Is something more than what we’re born with
Because judging someone’s intelligence or capacitiesÂ
By their exterior image is a sin
And what matters most is what’s within
Women shall unite because of the passionÂ
And fire in their souls
Bursting to escape, discover and tell stories untold
Do not be deceived by our exterior differencesÂ
Because we are alike in grit and determination
Can you not see the spunk and power in our eyes?Â
We don’t care what barriers others may drawÂ
Out of hate and discrimination
We are women
That may be a soft word
Easy for you to swallow
But do not be deceived
Behind the word is millions of living
Unique, strong, and powerful beings that will stay quiet no longer
As leaders may sit in their rooms peacefully and sway
Mustn’t they forget that women of colourÂ
Are still experiencing unequal pay
Being Africain-American, Latina, Asian,Â
Or having different coloured skin
Shouldn’t determine or limit anything
Don’t bother worrying and preparingÂ
To fight back for the dayÂ
We will display what we have to say
Because that day is today and everydayÂ
Until women no matter their skin colourÂ
Are treated equitably
