Justice

By ALESSANDRA PAPIA

Why do we choose judge someone

Over her olive skin

Choice of clothes

Cross pin

Or wish to show pride

Over her eyes of wisdom

And fierce stride

Put her in a box

Painted black

Now colour is what she lacks

But that’s what you wanted

To silence us

And hope our spirit dies

I don’t understand

Why don’t you realize

The discriminatory glaze

That coats your eyes

And you think this is all

Unnecessary chit chatter

Over things that don’t matter

But we will not rest until you see

That a woman’s

Race

Religion

Or sexual orientation

Is not a reason

You think justified

To be treated unequally
